There are, seriously, very few things I love more than discovering a great CD.
It can be a new artist, new CD from an already-loved artist, or an artist previously unknown to me.
It is usually just a little extra exciting when it is a new artist because there is so much potential for additional great stuff.
I have 'flash bulb' memories of where I was when I heard the first song/album from the most outstanding ones: Cowboy Junkies (Caution Horses), Sarah McLachlan (Surfacing), KD Lang (Hymns of the 49th Parallel), Serena Ryder (Is It O.K.), Mumford and Sons (Sigh No More), Ray LaMontagne (God Willin' & the Creek Don't Rise), Alabama Shakes (Boys and Girls), and Sherman Downey (Honey For Bees). These are the ones that I played over and over, the ones that I am pretty sure have altered my DNA in some way.
Today, it happens to be a new album from an already-loved artist, Rosanne Cash- The River & The Thread. I happened to hear Jian Ghomeshi interview her on Q this morning and now I am listening to her new tunes. Let the adventure begin!
