There are lots of recipes online and it makes for a yummy salad. A nice alternative to rice AND I actually cook it in my rice cooker. Bonus.
My first exposure to a rice cooker was in Japan. I know there are lots here but I had never seen one in action. I thought it was the cat's meow, so I ordered one from Amazon when I got home. It is a Zojurishi brand and it is brilliant. In typical Japanese-electronics style, it 'sings' a little tune when I turn it on and when it is finished. Cooking appliances that sing? Extra brilliant. I wonder if a Big Green Egg sings?
Quinoa is a pseudocereal. True cereals come from grasses; we cultivate the edible grain for food. Pseudocereals are broad-leaf plants that are used like grasses by cultivating the edible seeds. Does this interesting bit of trivia change how I see quinoa? Maybe just a wee bit. I don't get out much :-)
The Sweet Quinoa Salad is delicious. It is a recipe I first saw on Pinch of Yum, a blog that I LOVE.
Mine is only slightly different but I added my own chutney recipe. My son's girlfriend, Sarah, commented that the salad was sweet so I named it Sweet Quinoa Salad. Depending on the chutney you use, it may be more or less sweet.
