It is now a running gag in our house that, whenever someone makes Kraft Dinner, they say they are making Lamb Dhansak. Why? We were inspired by a funny movie: The Grand Seduction. And someone here has a way of twisting things around.
The Grand Seduction was filmed here in Newfoundland and Labrador last year. It is quite delightful. It stars Taylor Kitsch and Brendan Gleeson along with a slew of local NL celebrities.
The story is about a rural NL community that is trying to attract a doctor. Through the jiggs and the reels, a young doctor (Taylor Kitsch) winds up in the community, much to his chagrin. The community wants to ensure that he is happy so they eavesdrop on his telephone conversations with his fiance in an attempt to determine his wants and needs.
Apparently, Lamb Dhansak was a 'want' when he arrived. Now, I am pretty sure if you calculated the odds, your chances of winning a million dollars are much higher than your chances of finding Lamb Dhansak on a menu in rural NL! Yet, when Taylor Kitsch went to the local restaurant, sure enough, Lamb Dhansak was one of the items on the menu! Turns out, the restaurant was actually having their Annual Lamb Dhansak Festival! Sooooo funny!
Anyway, since then I have actually made Lamb Dhansak twice, once using moose. My husband has 'claimed' to have made it a whack of times.
Now, for those of you who know the set up here, my husband almost never cooks. He is very handy at building things, repairing things, mowing things, painting things, and on she goes, but 'things' are generally not cooked by him.
When he does cook, it will be Kraft Dinner or hot dogs.
Well, his cooking repertoire has not changed since The Grand Seduction, other than the fact that he now refers to anything he cooks as Lamb Dhansak.
Lamb Dhansak. Yup. Kraft Dinner. Chuckle.
By the way, if you get a chance to see The Grand Seduction you should. Great movie!
