I have a friend who gives me rabbit that is caught in the Springdale area. Bottled and everything. No fuss, no muss. Brilliant! We all need friends like that! I decided that this was the week for the bottled rabbit to be shot...with my camera.
My son told me something quite interesting about rabbits and the Japanese language. He lived in Japan for three years and managed to get a good handle on the lingo. One of my favorite stories that came back with him has to do with counting things in Japanese and Buddhist monks.
Just back from Jamaica. First time. Lovely.
As I was sitting down there in 30 degree heat, sipping on a piña colada, it occurred to me "Jamaica is the spit of Newfoundland and Labrador"!!
I know, I know. You don't believe me. You are thinking, it must have been the heat. She was overcome. Or the piña colada. One too many. I understand. It took me awhile to get there too.
Arguably the best bakery in St. John's. There really aren't too many bakeries around so the argument is going to be pretty brief. And The Rocket is going to win!
I sauntered into The Rocket last week and these little cuties were sitting there waiting for someone to bring them home. I was only too happy to oblige.
I decided to make a few cinnamon buns for a photo shoot for iStock and ShutterStock. I may have eaten a few of them too...I can't say for sure. What I can tell you is that there were originally 24 and now there are 8. But the rest is a blur.
I loved going to Cinnabon when I traveled with the CFIA (we don't have one here on The Rock). I was gob-smacked when I read the nutritional content of the large Caramel Peacanbon that I usually ordered. 1080 calories with 51 grams of fat!
"I was prepared for lots of rain. I just wasn't prepared for it to be going sideways."
When I worked for the CFIA, we had a veterinarian that moved to Newfoundland and Labrador from Western Canada. My first impression of her was that she had the spirit of an adventurer; she arrived with an open mind and appeared to embrace the East Coast experience. She had lived in British Columbia so she and rain had already met, on more than one occasion. When I asked her how she was finding NL, the quote above was her reply. I laughed.
