The heat and humidity is all the talk today. Currently 29 degrees Celsius, feels like 38 with the humidity. If we get over 38.5 we will break our ALL TIME RECORD for humidity! Bring it on!
We Newfoundlanders are fascinated with the weather. We talk about it all the time. It is how we say hello: "Nice weather!"; "Some cold today!"; "Some shockin' hot".
I think there are two reasons for that.
I got a weeeee bit sidetracked photographing my peonies this morning when I was supposed to be staining the deck. Dooh.
As the expression goes, you have to make hay when the sun shines! I am pretty sure that expression applies more to flower-photography than it does deck-staining.
My peony bush is kinda under a birch tree, which makes for a pretty lighting situation. The peonies spend half the day flirting with the sun, and the other half in a full-on tryst! I can see the whole relationship develop from my kitchen window. It is fun to watch.
This is the lighthouse in Woody Point. A unique perspective, but I like it!
What to say about lighthouses that can't be felt by just looking at them? Not much really. They are a beacon, in good times and in bad. The older I get the more awe-struck I am when I think of what it must have meant to tend one, and to need one.
The Woody Point Lighthouse is just behind my cousin Arlene's house. There used to be a take-out close by called The Chicken Coup. It closed down very recently. Waaaaaaa. I think the Chicken Coup was around in the Paleozoic era, but don't quote me on that. They served the GREATEST french fries.
On the West Coast, hamburger-meat gravy on french fries is a thing. I know!! I'm not kidding!! A good thing indeed.
Although I am more of a rib-girl, I do appreciate a good wing from time-to-time. And a simple recipe is a bonus.
This recipe is definitely simple! And they are very tasty (which may have something to do with the butter...NOT margarine. NEVER margarine).
It just occurred to me that I could call this blog "Butter. NOT margarine. NEVER margarine". I realize that my love of butter may come back to bite me in the butt at some point. The good news is, I will still be able to sit down!
Hmmmm. What to do with all that leftover bread dough you have kicking around? Whaaaaaat? You don't have a whack of bread dough kicking around? ;-)
No worries. I have included a very simple bread dough recipe so that you can have a whack of bread dough kicking around.
I make a good bit of bread lately BUT I have to give all the credit to my Kitchenaid blender, and its handy dough hook, for the mixing part.
I reaaaally hate the very beginning of bread making, when the dough is sticking to my hands. Hate it. I hate it so much that, if I didn't have my blender, I suspect I would never make bread. That's a whole lot of hate, I know, but there it is!
Clover and I have a thing going on. I love, love, love clover.
I think I may take clover for granted though. I don't think about it a lot through the winter. If you were to ask me what my favourite flower is, I might not mention clover.
But, when I smell a field of clover I am suddenly a kid in Labrador, school is just out, and the summer lies ahead. Sigh :-)
Forget-me-nots have a great name. Instructional. Effective. Simple.
Forget-me-nots were my Mom's favourite flower. I never see them without thinking about her.
I am pretty sure everyone has a similar someone, whom they are pleasantly reminded of when they see forget-me-nots.
