Boy, did I hate picking blueberries when I was a kid. Hated it.
Why? Because I lived in Labrador and the flies were big as dogs. Seriously. Big as dogs.
There were a couple of kids that were carried off by the flies one summer. Never seen again.
Ok. So that last bit is not true. But the flies sure were...impressive!
We are pretty sure that my father had the blood of a nomad swirling through his veins.
He moved a lot considering he didn't work for the RCMP, or the military, and all indications are that he wasn't running from the law!
By the time I moved out at 17, my parents had lived in 11 houses in 6 communities.
I have been called a 'granola'. But the truth is, I am simply a granola wannabe...a lazy granola...granolaesque.
I checked out the definition of a granola in The Urban Dictionary. According to that website, these are some of the qualities of a granola:
- open-minded, left-winged
- environmentally and socially aware
- usually refrains from consuming or using anything containing animals and animal by-products (for health and/or environmental reasons)
- usually concerned about wasting resources
It has long been a goal of ours to 'hike more of the East Coast Trail'. I actually own the maps outlining the 19 paths that make up the 220 kms of the East Coast Trail, going from St. John's to Cappahayden. I have owned said maps for almost 10 years.
Last month we did #17 on the East Coast Trail Association maps: Bear Cove Point Path. We also did a little driving tour on the way back. Port Kirwan. Very, very nice.
Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.
-Ludwig van Beethoven
Music is a funny ol' thing.
(Feel free to quote me on that...!!)
Finally! We got out in the tent for the weekend.
I think the last time was 2009!
Greg and I really do love camping but, as of late, there seems to be a slew of reasons why we can't go. Summer is short and starts late here on the Avalon. In addition, there aren't a lot of parks that stay open past September 15th. Guess we are going to have to step it up a notch! Maybe backcountry camping? Winter camping?
Hmmmm. Going to have to chew on that thought for a goodly loooong time!
