Around Newfoundland and Labrador, most everyone plays something. Guitar is quite popular these days; you are bound to see several at any cabin party. You might also see a mandolin or banjo if you are lucky.
Historically though, the fiddle and accordion were the house-party instruments of choice.
Now, when I say 'accordion' to someone local, I am pretty certain that the image they get in their head is that of a button accordion. But there is another accordion- the piano accordion.
Music is the electrical soil in which the spirit lives, thinks and invents.
-Ludwig van Beethoven
Music is a funny ol' thing.
(Feel free to quote me on that...!!)
My very favorite bird call is that of a junco. If you are not familiar with their song you can check them out a The Cornell Lab of Ornithology All About Birds.
We have a tree in our backyard that is popular with juncos. There has been a junco singing in that tree every summer for as long as I can remember. I love, love, love listening to it sing on a gentle, sunny morning.
There are, seriously, very few things I love more than discovering a great CD.
It can be a new artist, new CD from an already-loved artist, or an artist previously unknown to me.
It is usually just a little extra exciting when it is a new artist because there is so much potential for additional great stuff.
